YouTube QR Code Generator

QR code for YouTube channel, video or Shorts

Paste the URL from your YouTube channel, video, Short or playlist. The studio encodes it into a standard QR that opens in the YouTube app on phones with it installed, or the mobile web for everyone else. Export SVG for print or PNG for the screen.

    Copy the URL from YouTube

Channel handle, video, Short, playlist or timestamped watch URL. The guide below covers each path.

  2. 2

Paste it into the URL field

The encoded payload updates live so you can verify before printing.

  3. 3

    Download SVG or PNG

SVG for event posters and packaging, PNG for slides and screens.

What this YouTube QR generator does

Channel, video, Shorts or playlist

Any YouTube permalink works. Channel for brand recall, video for campaigns, Shorts for vertical packaging.

Universal Links into the app

iOS and Android route the URL into the YouTube app when installed, falling back to the mobile web otherwise.

Logo at error correction H

Adding a centre logo bumps error correction to 30% so the cutout still scans on consumer phones.

Where this helps

Events

Conference talk recordings

QR on the room signage pointing at the talk's recording. Attendees scan as they leave.

DTC

Product unboxing inserts

Shorts QR demoing setup. Cuts support tickets, lifts watch time on your tutorial.

Personal

Business card back

2 to 3 cm channel QR. Hand it over and the recipient scrolls your portfolio later.

B2B

Trade show booth backdrop

Big channel QR. Two-second scan replaces a five-minute pitch on the busiest day.

Media

Print magazine ad

Video QR with timestamp jumping to the demo. Converts curiosity into a watch.

Education

Lecture handouts

Playlist QR for the course. Students scan once, watch the whole series in order.

Tips that help

  • 1

    Claim a handle before printing

youtube.com/handle takes 30 seconds. The `/@handle` URL is readable; the `/channel/UC...` ID form is not.

  • 2

    Use youtu.be for video QRs

The short form encodes into fewer QR modules, so the print scans more reliably at small sizes.

  • 3

Add a timestamp on long videos

Append `?t=120s` to jump past the intro. The YouTube share sheet adds it if you tick 'Start at' first.

  • 4

    Check video visibility before printing

Unlisted works for any scanner. Private fails. Public is the right pick for cold-scan posters.

How to point a QR at the right YouTube URL

YouTube has more URL types than most platforms: channel handle, channel ID, video, Shorts, playlist, timestamp. A thin QR generator just gives you one box. The work is picking which URL the scan should open, then copying it from the right place in the right format. This guide covers the four URL types you will actually need.

The canonical YouTube URL formats

Channel URLs come in three flavours: `/@handle` (modern, readable), `/channel/UC...` (immutable canonical ID), `/c/customname` (legacy, sunsetting). Videos use `/watch?v=ID` or the `youtu.be/ID` short form. Shorts use `/shorts/ID`. Playlists use `/playlist?list=PL...`. Pick the format that matches what the scan should open.

For channel QRs on printed materials, use the `/@handle` URL. It is the format Google treats as canonical for new channels and the one users recognise. The `/channel/UC...` form is the safety net if you have not claimed a handle. The legacy `/c/customname` form still resolves but YouTube is phasing it out.

For video QRs, the `youtu.be/ID` short form encodes into fewer modules than the full watch URL, which means a denser, more scan-friendly QR at small print sizes. Both forms deep-link into the YouTube app on iOS and Android via Universal Links.

How to copy the right URL from YouTube

Channel URL: sign in, click your avatar, choose Your channel. The address bar shows `https://www.youtube.com/@yourhandle`. Copy that. On mobile, open the YouTube app, tap your profile, then your channel, then the share icon. The share sheet hands you the same canonical URL.

Video URL: open the video in the desktop player, click Share under the video, copy the link. You get the `youtu.be/ID` short form. If you want a timestamp, tick 'Start at' and the share URL includes `?t=120` for the two-minute mark. On mobile, tap Share under the video and choose Copy link.

Shorts URL: open the Short in the vertical player, tap the share icon on the right rail, choose Copy link. You get `https://www.youtube.com/shorts/ID`. This URL opens the Short in the vertical viewer on phones and the standard player on desktop, so it works in both contexts.

Where the YouTube QR earns its place

Conference and event signage are the highest-value placement. The attendee has time, a phone in hand and an interest in the talk. A QR pointing at a specific talk recording or the channel turns a 30-minute session into a year of catch-up views. Print at 15 to 20 cm so it scans from 2 metres away across the foyer.

Product packaging and unboxing inserts are the second strong placement. A Shorts QR demoing setup or a tutorial cuts support emails and increases watch time on a video that already targets buyers. The scanner is already a customer; the watch is qualified traffic, which YouTube's algorithm rewards in suggested-video distribution.

Business cards and email signatures sit at the long-attention end. Channel QR at 2 to 3 cm on the back of a card hands the recipient a direct path to your portfolio of videos. Use the `/@handle` form so the URL stays readable if someone types it instead of scanning.

Common mistakes that kill scans

Encoding the `/channel/UC...` ID form on a customer-facing print. The URL works but it is unreadable, which means anyone who tries to type it instead of scanning will fail. Claim a handle at youtube.com/handle first, then encode the `/@handle` URL.

Linking to a single unlisted or private video. Unlisted videos work for anyone with the link, which is fine for a QR. Private videos require a signed-in viewer with access, which fails for cold scans. Check the video visibility before printing.

Forgetting the timestamp on a long video. A 40-minute talk QR that lands at second zero loses scanners in the intro. Append `?t=` to jump to the value moment. The YouTube share sheet adds this for you if you tick 'Start at' before copying.
