What NTA asks for
JEE Main is the national engineering entrance run by the NTA, the gateway to the NITs and IIITs and the qualifier for JEE Advanced. Its application takes a scanned photo and signature, and in the latest cycle it also captures a live webcam photo during the form.
The photo is a JPG of 10 to 200 KB on a plain white background, with your face taking about eighty percent of the frame and both ears visible, no mask or cap. The signature is a JPG of 10 to 100 KB. The NTA bulletin does not fix pixel sizes, so the file size and the composition rules are what matter.
These KB limits changed from the previous cycle, so older guides may quote the wrong numbers. Confirm the figures in the current NTA information bulletin.
Get it right with no second chance
Because there is no correction window, a rejected upload can cost you the form. Resize the photo to a passport shape and compress to a KB size so it lands between 10 and 200 KB on a white background, then size the signature to 10 to 100 KB.
Avoid filters, beauty smoothing, or a coloured background, all of which are common rejection reasons that you cannot undo. Keep a recent, clear, front-facing photo, and carry a printed copy to the exam centre for the attendance sheet.
If a file lands under its lower limit, increase a too-small file to clear the floor. The tool resizes and compresses only and cannot change the background.
