Fields a student card needs

A student card identifies the holder on campus and gives staff a number to look up. Start with the student's name, a photo, and the school or college name with its logo. Add the roll number or admission number, the class or course, and an academic year so the card expires cleanly at the end of a session. Many schools also keep a blood group on the card for their own records, which you can switch on when it is needed.

Keep it readable at arm's length. A library desk or a gate guard checks the photo and the number first, so make those clear and leave decoration out. The design here keeps the name as the largest element and the fields quiet beneath it.

Print a class set in one sitting

The card is the standard credit-card size, so it fits the lanyard holders and PVC printers that schools already use. Set the school name, logo, colour and academic year once, then change only the student's name, photo and roll number for each card, and download them one after another.

For a printed batch, download each as a PDF or a high-resolution PNG and hand the folder to a card printer, or print and laminate in-house. If a school portal needs the photo at an exact pixel size or under a file limit, resize it in pixels or compress it to a KB size before you upload.

Library, bus and exam use

A student card often doubles as a library card, a bus pass and an exam-hall ticket. A clear roll number and a readable photo are what those checks rely on, so the design leans on both. If your library scans a code, the card carries a barcode strip you can pair with the student number printed beside it.
