What SSC CGL is and the live photo
The Combined Graduate Level exam fills Group B and C posts across central departments, including Inspector in Income Tax and CGST, Auditor, Accountant, Assistant Section Officer, and Sub-Inspector in the CBI and NCB. It is open to graduates, which gives it its competitive reputation.
On the current portal your photograph is taken live by your camera during the application, so there is no photo file to compress for that step. Use even lighting and a plain background, face the camera directly, and avoid a cap or tinted glasses.
The signature stays a separate scanned upload, and that is what this tool is built to size. Your signature must stay consistent across every stage of CGL, because a mismatch at the exam can cost you your candidature.
Get the CGL signature right
The signature goes in as a JPG of roughly 6 by 2 cm at 10 to 20 KB, signed in running hand with dark ink on white paper, not in capital letters. Make it large enough to fill most of the box so it stays clear after compression.
Scan it, then resize to the signature shape and compress to a KB size to land in the 10 to 20 KB window. The compress tool outputs JPG, which is the format SSC expects.
For a legacy form or a passport photo you want on hand, the tool is pre-set to a common 200x230 pixel photo at 20 to 50 KB. It resizes and compresses only and cannot change the background.
