Resize an image for WhatsApp
WhatsApp compresses photos hard when you send or set them, so sizing yours sensibly first keeps it looking sharp instead of blurry. The tool below starts on a 640x640 square, the right shape for a profile photo.

Profile photo: a centered square
WhatsApp shows your profile photo as a circle and works from a square around 640x640. Crop a square with the face centered so the circular display does not cut anything off.
Because the picture appears small, a tight headshot reads better than a wide shot. The resize tool is preset to 640 by 640.

Shared images and status
When you send a photo, WhatsApp re-compresses it to save data, which softens detail in a large file. Resizing to something reasonable first, around 1600 pixels on the long side, gives a sharper end result than sending a huge original.
For a status, a tall image around 1080x1920 fills the screen like a Story. Crop vertical and keep the subject centered so nothing key sits where the interface overlaps.
Smaller files send faster
A lighter file sends quicker and uses less data, which matters on a weak connection. Compress the photo after resizing to speed it up further.
Everything happens in your browser. The image is never uploaded to imgkilo, so your photos stay private to your device.
