Resize an image to 1080x1920 for an Instagram Story

Stories and Reels fill the whole phone screen at a tall 9:16 shape, so a photo that is not already 1080x1920 gets zoomed or letterboxed. The tool below is set to 1080 by 1920.

The full-screen 9:16 shape

1080x1920 is the native Story and Reel size, a 9:16 vertical that matches a phone held upright. Sizing to it means your image fills the screen with no gray bars and no awkward zoom.

A landscape or square photo loses a lot when forced into 9:16, so this works best with vertical shots. Resize to a custom size if you only need part of the frame filled.

Mind the safe zone

Instagram overlays its own buttons on Stories: your profile and time at the top, the reply bar and actions at the bottom. Roughly the top and bottom 250 pixels can be covered.

Keep important text and faces in the middle of the 1080x1920 frame so the interface does not sit on top of them. Treat the edges as decorative space, not the place for your message.

Keep the file light

A full 1080x1920 photo can be heavy. Compress it before posting so it uploads quickly, especially on mobile data.

All processing is local to your browser. The image never uploads, so your Story drafts stay private until you choose to post.
